Freezin' for a Reason!

On Saturday, my friend and I participated in the Indiana Special Olympics Freezin for a Reason. Now I think the good Lord has a sense of humor because for weeks we have had decent 50+ degree weather. But yesterday it was 22 degrees when I headed to Eagle Creek! Before we went in, they announced the water temp was 33 degrees! I have to give some serious thank you's to my friend who jumped in with me. This was her first time and she was awesome! I must admit I laughed so hard at her that it made my jumping in freezing water so much easier. Nonetheless we survived and raised money for a great cause.

Whitney Houston - I Will Always Love You Official Music Video

We lost Whitney Houston last night at the age of 48; For me she was my all time favorite artist. She came on the scene in the 80's and I just loved her. I knew and still know all of her songs. She always had a song that felt like she was singing about my life. And as a teacher, The Greatest Love of All is our anthem.
Those who know me would never believe it unless they saw it but when I lived in Austin, my friends and I used to go to a restaurant that had kareoke night every Thursday. And yes, I would get up on that stage in front of a room full of strangers and belt out I Will Always Love You. I idolized her so much that I didn't much care that I didn't sound that good (LOL). I know after awhile people stopped going in on Thursday nights so they didn't have to listen to me sing. I absolutely loved it; it was my tribute to her....what a special time in my life.
As the I Will Always Love You song ends I say to Whitney, "Darling I love you, I will always ..... I will always love you"
I hope you are resting peacefully Whitney; You will be missed but never forgotten.

The NFL at PHS

Last semester we learned that PHS would be the only high school in the state to host an NFL sponsored event. Today we had 800 PHS students plus an additional 600 students from other high schools attend the NFL student athlete conference. Students heard from former NFL players about their experiences in high school, college and the pros. They also heard about the business side of football. In addition, they were able to attend a college fair. Other events included students hearing from current and former players discussing how they overcame obstacles and adversities. And the guest speaker was James Brown. It was a busy and tiring day but I was still able to get a picture with Mr. Brown. He was very genuine and truly shared a wonderful message with everyone. We are very lucky to have been able to host this event; it was well worth the hard work.
